Sir Veza's Date Night Review

As a lot of you know, I have been doing a series of date night reviews at local Chandler restaurants, and if you know that, you would also know just how excited I get about date night. Now what's not to love about an evening out, kidless? And when you add in a great meal at a local restaurant with an adult beverage, or two, or....the night is sure to be a hit!

Hubby and I were recently invited to dine at Sir Veza's at the Chandler Fashion Mall. Sir Veza's is the cantina stepchild of the oldest family owned Mexican restaurant in the country, El Charro Cafe in downtown Tucson, since 1922! Now I have to admit that I actually hadn't been to Sir Veza's before, although I had scoped it out a few times as I dragged children in and out of the mall clothes shopping. I am certain I have been one of those frazzled moms they see coming out of the mall, arms full of bags, barking like a drill sergeant, hair sticking up everywhere, looking like I just fought World War III alone. The one that is scowling at all the adults, who are enjoying a peaceful drink on the patio kidless. Well I got to be one of those adults, yep you heard it, scowl away!

The decor at Sir Veza's is so fun, it's a cross between motorhead and chic, with wrenches for door handles, gas pumps, chandeliers and plush velour couches. The menu is just as eclectic, a modern twist on mexican fare, that will have you coming back for more, yep I've already made my second trip. Not only is the decor and food both amazing, but they have the best "happy hours". Happy Hour runs everyday from 3-7pm and 9-close, except for Sundays when it runs from 4pm-close. During "happy hour" they run drink specials such as $3-$4 beer, ½ off stock margaritas, and their famous gas can for $6. There are also food specials on many appetizers, krisps, and quesadillas.

The service at Sir Veza's was awesome, we were seated and had chips and fresh salsa in front of us immediately. We decided to start with a couple drinks, while we perused the ample menu. Hubby ordered the "Whisktea", which was a combination of Stillhouse peach moonshine whiskey, peach puree, lemon soda, and iced tea. The drink was so refreshing, the subtle hints of peach were a great combination with the distinct flavor of the whiskey. For my first drink, I ordered the "Watermelon Jolly Rancher Margarita," it was amazing, one of those drinks that tastes like kool-aid and you know will creep up on you!

We started with appetizers, I ordered the Baconfest Chicken Chimis: 3 bacon wrapped chicken mini chimis with an agave drizzle, they were amazing, come on how could they not be? Take a already yummy chicken chimi, wrap it in bacon and put some agave drizzle on it, the bomb! They are also part the "happy hour" menu, but trust me they are worth full price. My husband ordered the SV Ceviche: chelada marinated seafood, avocado, and tajin served with chips and lime. This dish was amazing, it was so fresh and loaded with seafood, one of those appetizers you don't feel one bit guilty about eating.

It was time to order our main dishes, Milo went with the "One & Only Combo": nana's chicken or cheese enchilada with your choice of any single taco recipe* & handmade tamale recipe fixed with SV rice & choice of frijoles. He was not disappointed at all, he said everything was so good, and the black beans and the rice were awesome. I ordered the Kantina Steak: ½ lb carne asada flank steak built with melted tres quesos, grilled peppers, mushrooms & choice of tortillas, it also included two fixes, I went with the Green Chile Mac N' Cheese and the Street Corn Elote Dip. So the Mac N' Cheese was really good, don't get me wrong, but the Street Corn Dip was phenomenal, like so good I told everyone I know about it, like so good I made the girls go there for our girls night out so I could eat it, and like so good I really didn't like having to share it with them! So when you go check out Sir Veza's, you MUST try the Street Corn Elote Dip.

We had an amazing time at Sir Veza's, this one is at the top of my list for date night hot spots! I cannot say enough good things about it. The manager was amazing to deal with, super friendly and hospitable. Our server was on top of everything from the minute we walked in the door, and the food was delectable, don't forget that "Street Corn Elote Dip." The restaurant not only has indoor seating, but has ample patio space now that the cooler weather is upon us. James, the manager, was even telling us how the garage doors open right up, so the indoors also become the outdoors, we can't wait to visit on a cool day and check it out. There is also a separate room that is perfect for private functions such as parties and business meetings, or you could just hide in there with your "Street Corn Elote Dip" so you don't have to share it, you know I thought about it.

James was telling me they may start doing a special "date night" evening, so I will keep you all posted when I know more. Also, just in case you want to check it, out but don't have a sitter, they are super family friendly and do have a kids menu. Follow the link HERE to check out the menu online.
