Set in 16th-century Verona, Romeo & Juliet chronicles Shakespeare’s tale of two passionate teenagers from great families on opposing sides of a bitter feud. With its sweepingly regal ballroom scenes, vivacious swordplay and poignant pas de deux, Ib Andersen’s production is a visual tour de force.

Some interesting facts from this season's Romeo & Juliet performances:

  • Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev’s score is rarely heard in its entirety but will be performed from start to finish by the revered Phoenix Symphony.
  • Ballet Arizona ditches the tutus entirely for Romeo & Juliet, using only ornate, flowy costumes handmade in-house by a full-time costume production staff.
  • The production’s sword scenes use real swords!
